ANA PEREZ VENTURA

BIOGRAPHY

Ana Perez Ventura

Ventura was born in 1981 in Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

She started her studies in Vigo (Spain) at the University of Fine Art in painting specialty and pursued this formation at the  University of Barcelona. To conciliate both her passions, she also studied piano at the Higher Music Conservatory of Vigo. In 2002 she got a professional degree in piano and a higher diploma in 2008.

At the end of her studies in Barcelona, Ana got the “Seneca”‘s grant which enabled her to work in two Spanish universities. She moved to Paris in 2009 to complete her formation in a Master of Music and Musicology at Paris-Sorbonne’s University. She studied more specifically relations between art and music.

Ana is both a painter and a musician and all her work involves music and painting to explore the temporality of the artistic gesture. Her paintings are executed from a rhythmical repetition of the same circular gesture which leaves marks on the canvas  with the addition or subtraction of painting. As a pianist performer, Ana Pérez Ventura traduces sheet music’s symbols in a choreography previously realized on her piano keyboard.

Ana Pérez Ventura resorts to her musical experience converting the rhythmical and repetitive pianist’s gesture into an exploration of the pure abstraction and the time recording. This repetitive gesture creates a pictorial thread on the canvas. The result is a painting layers’ superposition disclosing a countless color variation and a subtle feeling of  depth.
